Dr. Rhonda Dean Mason
Dr. Rhonda Dean Mason, HAABSE President, also serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Fort Bend ISD. She has spent her career organizing departments, resources, curriculum, and best instructional practices to benefit children in the most challenging schools and communities in the country. She has served as an executive director of elementary and secondary schools, executive director of early childhood, executive director of school improvement, elementary school principal, and in many other leadership positions.
A life-long learner, Dr. Mason received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University, completed her Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Texas at Arlington, and earned a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University, where she was named Outstanding Doctoral Student of the Year in 2019 and Distinguished Educator of the Year in 2022. She is invested in developing future leaders and is on the board of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, where she was honored as Principal of the Year in 2019.
Dr. Mason often shares that both her grandmother and father were unable to read or write and describes the struggles they endured as a result. She strives to be the President that advocates for leaders and teachers that would have noticed their challenges and taken action to ensure they received the intervention they so desperately needed. She has a special place in her heart for people and finds so much joy in doing the work of HAABSE.
